If you’ve spent any time looking at cute pictures of pets on the Internet, you’ve probably seen dogs with names like “Cheese Puff” or “Mr. Wiggles.” But have you ever wondered if there was a science to cute food names for dogs?

There are no real rules that apply to dogs of any breed when it comes to cute names. But there are some things you can do to make sure your pet’s name will stick—no matter what kind of dog you have.

Tips For Finding a Cute Food Name for Your Dog

  1. Choose a name with one or two syllables when possible. It’s tends to be easier to learn for a new dog and also easier to say in a hurry.
  2. Pick something with a positive feeling. It seems you have already got that covered if you are looking for a cute name for your puppy. When most people hear a dogs name they immediately form an opinion about what that pets personality might be. For your dog, we of course want them to think “how cute!”.
  3. Use your dogs color for inspiration. Is your dog a pretty shade of gold/red? Maybe Sunflower or Frito are perfect names. For a white dog, Blondie and Coconut are cute food names.
  4. If this is a family pet, let everyone contribute to the naming decision. You can do a myriad of fun things including putting all the choices into a hat, holding a vote, etc.
